Larmers, Summers and New Blood

Yes, yes I know; I am slovenly in the extreme when it comes to updating my blog but that's because I'm busy writing...and cooking...and going to festivals...

The glorious mud be-splattered Larmer Tree festival was work however, my colleague Anna Farthing and I shared some great Chocolate Stories with those generous and very game festival folk - all part of our development of The Chocolate Plant which is coming along nicely but for more details on that please visit the dedicated blog.

Back home and having spent several hours in the bath washing mud and spiders from everything I own I am kicking off this week with New Blood, Bare Bones at the wonderful Exeter Bike Shed Theatre. Several weeks ago I was lucky enough to have my play selected as one of four winners of their short play competition and this week these little political playlets are being unleashed on the general public. Please find details below...

And what else? Well as my teacher boyfriend giddily dances round the flat belting out Alice Cooper's 'School's Out For Summer' I shall be seeing in the summer in my official role as Launch Artist for the Summer Reading Challenge, hosting a series of storytelling shadow puppetting workshops for primary school age children across Bristol. Can't wait to see what stories pour forth from those young brains...

The Bike Shed Theatre is continuing its work with new writing with an insightful and exciting  festival New Blood Bare Bones. Four short plays, some funny, some moving, shine the light on the prospect of Britain's lost society.
Special Advice by Rebecca Megson
A sunny day in a dark basement in Westminster. Tory special advisors Bas and Lexi and their new toy, Tom the Lib Dem intern, gather to solve the biggest potential threat to this country's future social and economic stability. Which, for them, is just a regular day at the office. Three special advisors. Seven hours. One idea. How dangerous can it be?
Be Civil, Disobey by Perdita Stott
The year 2056 and society has been reborn with new purpose and opportunities for all - until you turn twenty-five that is. There's just one direction a young person can take in this new world and time is running out. So, when your number is called, will you be civil, or will you disobey?
Class of 2012 by Bea Roberts
"I'm an International Accounts Director and they still stare down my top when they think I'm not looking". Leaving education, growing up and establishing a career can often mean compromises; ten years on from the cuts, Kerry and Rebecca from the 'Class of 2012' find themselves more compromised than ever.
The Capture by Gerald Clarke
It is illegal to beg. All offenders will be severely punished. And this is Alan's fifteenth attempt in three months. He's never been imprisoned. But then, in some ways, he already is. A darkly comic play with an absurd and original twist.
